I help out in my son's art class on Friday mornings. The kids were all working on a repoussé piece (a technique in which metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side). The teacher gave me the same kind of paper and sheet of metal that the kids used for their pieces and asked me if I could do one and bring it back the following Friday. And just as the kids did I used Sharpie Markers for the color. I figured I would use the Illustration Friday word of the week "cracked" as my inspiration for my repoussé.
My name is David Laferriere, I am a graphic designer and illustrator. My main focus has always been the reader. The reader needs to react to my work, by getting into the story, or by taking in information from my page design, graphic or illustration.
When working on a project I like to know the target audience and what may pique their interest. It is my goal to use my news sense and design skills to get that target audience to become engaged.
