Pop-up wedding card

I made this pop-up card for my nephew Brian and his long-time girlfriend Vanessa. They got married on Onset Beach in Massachusetts this past Friday.

This is a simple double slit pop-up with three generations. Each 'cake layer' is a generation. It depicts a wedding cake on Onset Beach.

I started with a couple of idea sketches in my sketchbook.

Then I made a quick prototype of the card using some scrap paper  at the same size that the finished piece will be.

From this prototype I was able to determine the actual size of the cake width and height and then got on to making the final piece.

I used a black Sharpie and colored pencils. I drew, cutout and glued the piping, flowers, and the bride & groom.

I made an envelope from a letter sized piece of paper and cut out a window to show the front of the card.

It was a fun card to make.

About D.R. Laferriere

My name is David Laferriere, I am a graphic designer and illustrator. My main focus has always been the reader. The reader needs to react to my work, by getting into the story, or by taking in information from my page design, graphic or illustration.

When working on a project I like to know the target audience and what may pique their interest.  It is my goal to use my news sense and design skills to get that target audience to become engaged.

Take a look at my portfolio pages and my resume, maybe I can be of service.
